Sustainability at Beijer Ref

"Beijer Ref aims to reduce both its own and its customers' environmental impact by offering sustainable products and training. The company complies with international guidelines such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) and reports to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) initiative.

Ambitious emission reduction targets

As part of the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 °C, Beijer Ref has set targets for 2030:

  • 42% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions (Scope 1 & 2)
  • 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions (Scope 3)

These targets have been adopted under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) methodology.

Reducing emissions in 2023

In 2023, Beijer Ref's total carbon footprint decreased by 5%, mainly due to:

  • switching to alternative (natural) refrigerants;
  • replacing old, energy-intensive equipment with more energy-efficient solutions.

Focus on reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions

"Beijer Ref Scope 1 and 2 emissions decreased by 4% (excluding the 2022 leakage incident). This has been achieved through increased focus:

  • direct emissions from the transport fleet and fossil fuel heating of buildings, and indirect emissions from the use of electricity for lighting, heating, cooling and district heating services.

Scope 3 emission reductions

More than 99% of Beijer Ref's emissions are Scope 3 emissions, which mainly come from the installation and use of the equipment. "Beijer Ref reduces these emissions:

  • educating customers and installers;
  • offering cooling solutions and heat pumps with lower GWP (Global Warming Potential);
  • promoting the correct disposal of refrigerants at the end of their life cycle;
  • investing in even greener solutions.

Reduced climate impact as a result

"Beijer Ref is actively contributing to the global reduction of CO₂ emissions and the transition towards a climate-neutral future.
